Population
The population of Nunavut is minuscule for the area that it covers, the population of Nunavut in 2011 was only 31,906 (Statistics Canada 2011) across the whole 2.1m km². The population of Nunavut lives spread among the 28 communities indicated on the picture to the right. The largest of these is the capital of Nunavut, Iqaluit with a population of 6,699 (Statistics Canada 2011). Looking at the population of Nunavut as a whole we see that 70% of the population speaks Inuktitut as their first language, whilst 27% speaks English as theirs and just 1% speaks French as their primary language (Statistics Canada 2011). |
